1. Information

Our company is Book Enigma Ltd, Halleggo Farm Helston Water, Bissoe, Truro, TR4 8TD. Company Number 14561320.

We own and operate an App where Customers can make reservations for a restaurant table. The Customer makes a “blind” booking where they do not choose the restaurant. Instead, they will be informed which restaurant has been chosen for them two hours before the reservation time by email. The choice is made for them following the criteria they have given us.

We may be both a data controller and data processor of personal data and may have a Data Processing Agreement with our partners and affiliates if necessary to ensure that your data is handled appropriately, correctly and in compliance with the General Data Protection Act 2018.

This privacy policy will explain how we use the personal data we collect from you when you visit and use our App. We will also explain the type of data and information we collect from you and how we use it and how you can opt-out.

We have divided this policy into seven sections to make it easier for you to find the information you need.

2. Disclosure

Data we collect

For a better experience, while using our Service, we may require you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information, including but not limited to Name, Email address, User IDs, Phone number, Other info, Purchase history, User payment info, Support messages, Photos, Calendar events, Crash logs, Diagnostics, Other app performance data, App interactions, Other user-generated content, Other actions, Device or other IDs.

We want to inform you that whenever you use our Service, in a case of an error in the app we collect data and information (through third-party products) on your phone called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your device Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when utilizing our Service, the time and date of your use of the Service, and other statistics.

How we collect your data

You provide Book Enigma with most of the data we collect when you sign up or make a reservation with us when you give us details such as name or email address or from cookies when you browse our App.

We may employ third-party companies and individuals due to the following reasons:

  • To facilitate our Service;
  • To provide the Service on our behalf;
  • To perform Service-related services; or
  • To assist us in analyzing how our Service is used.

We want to inform users of this Service that these third parties have access to their Personal Information. The reason is to perform the tasks assigned to them on our behalf. However, they are obligated not to disclose or use the information for any other purpose.

The information that we request will be retained by us and used as described in this privacy policy.

The app does use third-party services that may collect information used to identify you.

Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. These are sent to your browser from the apps or websites that you visit and are stored on your device’s internal memory.

This Service does not use these “cookies” explicitly. However, the app may use third-party code and libraries that use “cookies” to collect information and improve their services. You have the option to either accept or refuse these cookies and know when a cookie is being sent to your device. If you choose to refuse our cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of this Service.

We may also indirectly receive your data from third-party apps, websites, or referrals from other companies.

Your personal details are also collected by third parties, for example, Stripe securely collects all your payment details directly and manage payment processes.

3. Purpose and Legal Basis

Why we collect your data

We collect your data so that we can offer our services and arrange a table reservation for you. Payment details and information are collected by Stripe which we do not have access to. We may need your contact details so we can email you with information on our services we think might interest you and to give the restaurant your details for the reservation. Also, your data may help make the services we offer better and to give you an improved user experience.

When Stripe processes your payment they may send your data to reference agencies and also use the resulting information to prevent fraudulent transactions.

Your name and email address will also be accessible by the restaurant.

Legal basis

Your data may be processed for the following reasons:

1. Web traffic analysis, ensuring security within the Website and adapting content to your needs using the legal basis of legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR);

2. Responding to your enquiries, forwarding requested orders and  correspondence to resolve any issues as necessary to carry out our Contract as our legal basis 

3. The processing of data is necessary for an agreement we have with you using Contract as our legal basis  (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).

4. Optimising service processes for sales and after-sales service processes including complaints, which is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR); 

5. Archiving and retaining data and records to comply with the law or provide proof of transactions or facts secure information in the event of a legal requirement to prove facts. For example, sales invoices required by the tax office by law which is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR);

6. Any allegations, investigations or defences against legal claims being our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR)


Book Enigma, with your consent, would like to occasionally send you by email information such as newsletters about our Services.

If you have agreed to receive emails from us containing promotional offers to your email address, you can easily unsubscribe from this at any time. We will no longer send you such marketing information.

You have the right to request that Book Enigma do not contact you for marketing purposes at any time.

4. Consent

In some cases our legal basis for collecting your data is consent, but there may be other grounds. In this case, the applicable law is the General Data Protection Regulation (2018) and the Data Protection Act (2018)

Your data or information will not be used, sold, transferred or otherwise disclosed without your consent. You are also able to opt-out or discontinue using our App and take back the consent for the use or dissemination of data or identifiable information. Consent to Withdraw

You are entitled to withdraw your consent at any time for any or all of your data. However, this may mean that we cannot offer you a full service or you may not be able to use some parts of our App.

Information concerning minors

Only children over the age of 13 are allowed to give consent for the use of their data. We cannot request or process data from children under the age of 13 unless consent from whoever holds parental responsibility for the child has been given in writing. However, only people over the age of 18 are allowed to use our App which means that we do not collect or process data from anyone under the age of 18.

Who your personal data is shared with

We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with the law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent. We process your information only when we have a valid legal reason to do so

Your personal data can only be processed by businesses that are allowed to do this by law. Additionally, we may share your data with couriers, postal operators, hosting providers, mail servers, law firms and accountancy firms or third-party apps such as Quizify

5. Security

How we look after your data

We will only store your personal data in the UK. This means that it will be fully protected under UK Data Protection Legislation.

When we process your order and make your Reservation you give us your personal data such as name and email address in order to provide our Services.

We may store some of your data on our secure App servers or in our Computer system we use to operate our business and process your reservation. This system and any files are securely encrypted and can only be accessed by authorised Book Enigma staff.

You can ask us to provide you with information on what data we have stored about you. We will correct or erase data if you ask us unless we need it for legal reasons.

We will keep your personal identification details including email addresses for only as long as you are using our App to use our Services. We will keep your data only as long as we need it. However, for your convenience, we do not delete your data immediately after you have used our Services, in case you return to our App to make another Reservation. Once period has expired, we will delete your data by removing it from the server and systems.
